BEIJING – Jackie Chan may be a seasoned action star but his latest action comedy, Railroad Tigers, had him mulling over new ideas to portray action scenes.
He said that he is always seeking a breakthrough in action choreography.
In the film, he uses slides and bamboos as platforms to jump on a running train.
“The moves demand high accuracy. Otherwise, you jump on the wrong place, it will be very aching,” said Chan.
Set during the War of Resistance against Japanese aggressors (1937-45), the upcoming film is about a legendary communist guerrilla troop.
Comprising a group of railroad workers, they take on the Japanese army and steal food from the trains to give to the poor.
Director Ding Sheng, who had previously teamed up with Chan in 2010’s Little Big Soldier and Police Story in 2013, is working again with the actor to helm the new movie.
The crew built a railway station in north-eastern China in 90 days, and finished most of the stunts on a moving train.
Young stars, such as singer Huang Zitao and actor Wang Kai, are also in the cast – the first such casting move for Chan, who is used to recruiting veterans adept at performing stunts.
The movie will open in Chinese theatres on Dec 30 while it is slated to show in Singapore on Dec 29.
