A video from Reuters shows an Indian teacher filmed hitting students in his class at a school in Haryana, India.
A student secretly shot the video of the teacher, Pradeep Arora, punishing them for not finishing their homework and for performing poorly in tests.
He was seen slapping some in the face and using an item to smack another student’s palm. At least four students were shown in the video.
According to Reuters, corporal punishment in schools is banned in India, although it’s still seen by some as an acceptable form of discipline.
Arora says he has not done anything wrong.
He told Reuters: “Many parents come to me saying give them any punishment, you have an army background, we just want the results.
“we want to send our children out, they need to be trained. So in those cases, I try to be stricter to teach them discipline.”
Police are investigating the case. But there have been no formal complaints by students or parents so far.
