A 75-year-old grandfather was taken into police custody after he allegedly hacked his “abusive” 17-year-old grandson to death at their Buri Ram house on Thursday night.
Boonlert Noksanthai waited for police at the scene and handed over a clever to police. His grandson died of six serious wounds on his face, throat, temple and head at their house in Ban Khok Yang in Tambon Kan Luang in Buri Ram’s Nang Rong district.
The boy’s father, Pornchai Satthatham, 40, told police that Boonlert, who is his father-in-law, killed the teenager in self-defence.
Pornchai said his son got drunk, demanded money to leave and go drinking, and threatened to harm his parents if he did not get the money.
When Boonlert tried to calm the grandson, who was carrying the cleaver, the boy hit the old man repeatedly. The grandfather snatched the knife and hacked him, Pornchai said.
Neighbours told police the grandson often beat up his own grandpa after getting drunk.
