Former president S R Nathan remains unconscious, but his vital signs are stable, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Friday (Aug 5).

He posted the update on Mr Nathan’s condition on his Facebook page after visiting him at Singapore General Hospital earlier in the day.

PM Lee said that the former president remained critically ill and thanked the medical team attending to Mr Nathan.

Mr Nathan, 92, has been in critical condition after suffering a stroke on July 31. He is Singapore’s sixth president and was in office as head of state from 1999 to 2011.

PM Lee also shared that Mrs Nathan and her family have been very moved by the outpouring of good wishes and messages.

He urged people to keep praying for the former president.

“Not many people have done as much for Singapore as Mr Nathan has,” wrote PM Lee.
