Watching too much gongfu shows could be bad for kids if they pick up a deadly skill like throwing a dagger at a playground rival.

A squabble between two kids in a park in Dongguan city saw a bloody finale when one of them threw a dagger at the other.

The sharp instrument pierced the wrong target – the back of the head of an innocent 12-year-old girl, who was also his classmate. She was rushed to hospital where doctors managed to save her life by just pulling out the dagger cautiously, reported NetEase.

The incident in the city of southern Chinese province of Guangdong began with a 13-year-old boy getting into a fight with the victim’s friend. The group thought the fight had ended and started to walk away..

But not for the dagger owner, who whipped out his 15cm-long weapon and reportedly threw it towards the direction of his opponent who was leaving with the party. However, it hit the girl instead.

Like a scene from the popular Chinese sword-fighting drama series, The Legend of Flying Daggers, it struck the girl’s head and was embedded into her skull. Unlike the unfortunate characters in the show who died, the girl survived and is said to be recovering well.

The police managed to track down the culprit but he was too young to be charged, reported NetEase.

The case was settled out-of-court with the family of the dagger boy settling the 8,000 yuan (nearly S$1,700) hospital bill for the victim, which was reportedly the cost of having the weapon extracted from her head.

One question remains: How did the assailant managed to obtain the weapon at such a young age?
