A suicide bid by a 19-year-old woman in China has ended with the deaths of six people, including herself.
The woman was having dinner and drinks with four colleagues from a local company on Sunday (July 17) in Dunhuang city in Gansu province, reported AFP.
Suddenly, the woman, surnamed Ma, said that she no longer wanted to live and jumped into a nearby river, according to Shanghaiist.
Her colleagues, aged between 18 and 26, leapt in to rescue her, pulling her out of the water, said the report.
She then made a second suicide attempt, diving into the river once again.
Her concerned colleagues followed her into the river again, along with a food vendor who witnessed the incident.
This time, they were not so lucky. All six of them, three women and three men, drowned.
A video on China News showed a woman grieving over one of the men who drowned. Other images showed a passer-by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation in a futile attempt to revive one of the drowning victims.
City officials are investigating the incident, reported AFP.
