American fashion designer Michael Kors will be in Singapore on Nov 14 and 15 to officially celebrate the opening of his largest Southeast Asia flagship store at Mandarin Gallery.

During his visit here, the 57-year-old will also be commemorated at the National Orchid Garden with an orchid breed named after him. Named as “The Michael Kors Orchid”, the cross-breed orchid is white with a purple tint.

The Michael Kors orchid joins other famous orchid blooms named after notable past and present leaders, such as Mr Lee Kuan Yew and Madam Kwa Geok Choo, Britain’s Prince William and Kate Middleton, Barack and Michelle Obama, and even Nelson Mandela.

According to the Singapore Botanic Gardens website, the national flower is used as “agents to promote goodwill and foster closer ties between nations”.

To date, the Garden has named over 200 VIP orchids.
