HUNDREDS of Pokemon fans queued for the opening of a new pop-up Pokemon-themed café today at PARCO Bugis Junction in Singapore.
Fans turned up as early as 6am for the 11am opening. Café staff told The Straits Times that fans were informed about the long wait times, which could stretch up to five hours.
18-year-old student Rayner Tan, a fan who was waiting in line from the wee hours of the morning, said, “We took the first train this morning. To me, the dining experience is more important. You may want to buy the merchandise, but that does not hold much of a value to me personally unless you have eaten at the café”.

The café features 13 food and beverage items, most of which are shaped like Pikachu, a popular fictional creature of Pokemon.
Items like pancakes, beef patties, omelettes and lattes feature the shape of Pikachu’s sparkly, doe-eyed face. The character’s face is also stamped on foods like bread and potatoes.

The pop-up café will operate in the mall until July 31.
Two weeks ago, a Hello Kitty-themed café opened its doors in Changi Airport, also attracting hundreds of fans who waited for hours prior to its launch.

Lately, there’s been a surge of cartoon-themed cafés in Singapore, owing to both the Hello Kitty and Pokemon cafés, as well as a Charlie Brown-themed one.
