Staff from engineering company are excited to bond with each other at The New Paper Courts Big Walk

Where do employees of Wong Fong Engineering go for their weekly cooking, zumba and gardening lessons? Their office, of course.

Formed this year, the company’s Committed to Health committee plans and organises outings and recreational activities for all employees.

Miss Tan Ai Huang, 37, assistant human resource manager and adviser chairman of the committee, said: “We have many activities such as gardening classes, cooking.

“We also have some lunch talks that usually revolve around topics like fengshui or insurance.”

There are also badminton and yoga sessions, all for employees from different departments to mingle and relax.

She said: “We want to promote a healthy work-life balance among the employees.

“This is because everyone always has their mobile phones with them and the line between work and play becomes blurred.

“We just want employees to be less stressed.”

And now there is another avenue for them to mingle – The New Paper Courts Big Walk.

Miss Tan, who will not be attending the event due to work commitments, said the Big Walk is very much aligned with the objectives of the company’s committee.

Eight employees and three of their family members will be attending the walk together.

They are excited about taking part in the walk this year because of its unique location: the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari.

Finance manger Jean Liew, 58, will be taking part with her 29-year-old son.

She said: “My son is a cat lover and will definitely be excited to see members of the cat family there.”

Most of them have not been to the parks in a long time.

Miss Tung Wern Dheng, 25, a design engineer, said: “I find the walk very interesting because it has been very long since I went to the zoo. So this is a good opportunity for me to visit the zoo again.

“It will be a novel experience and fun walk.”

‘INTERESTING’

Ms Yeo Ai Choon, 48, a senior operations manager, said: “I think it will be interesting because we get to walk among the animals.

“The walk is different because of the venue. I think the last time I went to the zoo was about 20 years ago.”

Said Mr Thuta Win, 38, a graphic designer: “We often participate in different types of runs and I feel that this really helps us to bond with one another.

“All our families know one another and have met each other before, so that is really nice.”
