Canadian actress Christy Chung, 45, is set to marry her 33-year-old boyfriend after he proposed to her during a taping of the show Perhaps Love.
Chung and Chinese actor Zhang Lunshuo (also known as Golden Zhang) first started dating last year after being paired up on the same show, a reality dating programme on China’s Hubei TV.
During their most recent taping, Zhang sang and danced with four back-up dancers as Chung sat and watched on stage.
When the dancers left, Zhang said: “We began on Perhaps Love, so I think that at the end of the programme, we’ll give everyone a better beginning, and the whole world will see I’m responsible to you, as I said I’d be.”
“I hope I’ll give you happiness, you’ll always be happy, I hope you’ll marry me,” he said.
He then got down on one knee and pulled out a ring.
Chung agreed, of course.
She later said via a WeChat update that she had not expected to find true love on a TV programme.
Apple Daily quoted Chung as saying that she had a “good understanding” of Zhang, and agreed to marry him as she felt he would be “a responsible man who takes care of me, the kids and the family”.
This will be Chung’s third marriage. She has three daughters; one from her first marriage to Glen Ross and two with ex-husband Jon Yen, a Taiwanese record producer.
