A man from southern China found out he had two extra kidneys after one of them became infected and gave him abdominal pain, Guizhou Metropolis Daily reported.
28-year-old Wang Kailian from Guiyang, Guizhou province had been experiencing pains in his waist for the past few years, but did not know the reason until he visited a local hospital last month.
The pains had become so severe that daily painkilling injections would not work.
After a thorough check, doctors discovered that Wang had four kidneys instead of the normal two. One of the kidneys had become infected and was the cause of his abdominal pains.
The problematic organ was successfully removed in a five-hour operation last Wednesday (June 15).
Wang’s sister told Guizhou Metropolis Daily that her brother has always been healthy and strong, and that he eats and drinks more than the average person does.
And his family is not unfamiliar with medical abnormalities – his sister, father and grandmother all have polydactyly, which is the condition of being born with extra fingers or toes.
Interestingly, Wang also comes from a village where there is a higher probability of twins, Guizhou Metropolis Daily said.
