A Singapore-registered car crashed on the Causeway between Singapore and Johor early this morning (June 6). It ended up on the railway tracks and disrupted train service for about an hour.
Shin Min Daily News reported that the driver, a Singaporean in his thirties, hurt his hand, but did not need to be taken to a hospital.
The Chinese daily said that the rented white sedan was heading to Singapore at about 4.30am, after clearing customs in Johor, when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The car went onto railway tracks to its left and landed on its right side, leaning against a water pipe.
Shin Min said that the driver was at one point trapped in the car, as it was resting on the driver-side doors. Some motorists nearby helped to get the driver out.
Staff at the train station at Woodlands said that the first train of the day, scheduled at 5.30am, was delayed until 6.30pm: “It was full, with around 320 passengers.”
Pictures showed that the authorities lifted the car from the tracks.
Malaysian train operator Keretapi Tanah Melayu (KTM) said the tracks were cleared at 6.30am and two train services were cancelled, The Straits Times reported. A PUB spokesman said that the water pipes were not damaged.
