We know where the crash happened. We know it involved a car and a motorcyclist, who is believed to be a food delivery rider.
But who is to blame for it? That’s the question which has sparked an online debate after dashcam footage of the crash began circulating on Facebook on Sunday (Jan 15).
According to reports, the accident occurred on Sunday (Jan 15) at the junction of Tembeling Road and Koon Seng Road in Joo Chiat at 2.05pm.
Everyday SG posted the dashcam footage taken from another vehicle on Facebook. It shows the motorcyslist flung through the air in a somersault after he was hit by an oncoming car which had just moved off from a ‘Stop’ sign.
From the video, it is unclear if the driver of the car had stopped at the ‘Stop’ sign before going forward at the cross-junction.
Fortunately, the driver of the car stopped to render assistance to the motorcyclist, who was reported to be unhurt and conscious after the accident.
Some social media users were quick to jump to the defence of the motorcyclist, saying that he was probably rushing to “serve food hot and on time”.
Others said that the driver of the car was at fault for not being cautious enough.
And, an apparent witness of the incident also pointed a finger at the car driver.
Another netizen said that this incident was a learning point for all.
The authorities are probably the best folk to determine who is right and wrong in such instances, but it might be wise to just keep a better lookout to prevent such accidents from happening in future.
