SINGAPORE: Property developer CapitaLand has teamed up with the People’s Association (PA) on a fund to help provide education, healthcare and shelter to children from low-income households, it announced on Thursday (Nov 3).
The S$800,000 CapitaLand-People’s Association Community Development Fund aims to support 1,000 children – aged six to 13 – from low-income households in its first year.
These children, identified by the PA, have received new schoolbags containing necessities for school, CapitaLand said in a press release. They will also be provided with one meal for each school day for a year and will attend educational activities around the theme of buildings and architecture.
President and Group CEO of CapitaLand Lim Ming Yan said that the firm believes that helping underprivileged children will create a “positive multiplier effect” for their families and improve their social mobility.
He also said CapitaLand hopes to tap on PA’s ground network to target its support to children who stand to benefit the most.
The new fund was launched by Minister for Social and Family Development Tan Chuan-Jin at the developer’s annual Volunteer Day at Raffles City Singapore. As part of the event, 450 beneficiaries of the fund were given vouchers to purchase school and daily necessities at the mall and taught how to manage their finances by volunteers.
