Rocker Bryan Adams will be back for another gig next month.
Bryan Adams fans need not fear the Canadian performer has wandered from his rock and roll roots after 40 years in the business.
The 57-year-old, who will perform at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre next month and is known for rock hits like Summer of ’69 and Run To You, is quite content to stick to his niche.
His 13th album Get Up, released last year, was his first record of wholly original content in seven years, but he insists the time for musical experimentation has passed.
“I stopped evolving in 1981. The new album is true to my rocking soul,” he told The New Paper in an e-mail interview.
Adams’ upcoming concert is his second one here. He last played at the Singapore Indoor Stadium in 1993.
“It was a great gig, I remember that. I’ve been at the airport a few times since then on the way to Australia, and I’m excited to come back again,” he said.
SERENADE
The crooner, who released ballads like (Everything I Do) I Do It For You and Please Forgive Me, said couples often ask him to serenade them at weddings and special occasions.
He said: “I always tell them to come to the show, and I’ll sing (my hits) there.”
As a rock star, Adams has been photographed to death.
But he has his own passion for photography, which has blossomed into a second career.
He has shot Queen Elizabeth II, US supermodel Cindy Crawford and wounded servicemen returning from Afghanistan and Iraq, and published his best photographs in books like Exposed And Wounded: The Legacy Of War.
Fellow musicians such as Lana Del Rey, Jared Leto and the late Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse have also been photographed by him.
“I think I clicked with them all at some level. What a journey,” he said.
So do fellow photographers sweat when taking portraits of Adams, knowing he has won three Lead Awards in Germany for his fashion photography?

“It comes down to your work. Most people wouldn’t do a shoot if they didn’t like what you were doing.
“Sometimes when the light isn’t great, I’ll stick my nose in,” he said.
For his contributions to art and music, Adams received the Queen’s Golden Jubilee Medal in 2002 and Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
So does he regularly hang out with the royal family, or think a knighthood is in his future?
He replied with four of the saddest words in the English language: “Only in my dreams.”
