CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR (PG)
Action-adventure/148 minutes/Opens today
Rating: 4/5
The story: The world’s governments want the Avengers to be policed. Tony Stark aka Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) is for it but The Cap (Chris Evans) is against it. Sides are formed and when a disaster involving Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan) occurs, friendships and alliances are further put to the test.
BEST. Superhero. Movie. Yet.
This is how a battle royal between two superpowers should unfold.
DC should take notes – there’s much it can learn from Marvel.
There is much action, as you’d expect from a superhero blockbuster, yet there are equal parts humour and drama.
The comedy comes at the most unexpected moments, and you can tell there is a fair amount of improvisation going on.
And that’s why Civil War stands out. The subject matter is already heavy. No need to make it even more serious. It is, after all, a comic-book movie.
I was initially concerned that Iron Man, being the flashier and more egoistic guy in the group, would overshadow Cap.
Thankfully, Cap still rules and Evans continues to shine as the leader.
The Russo brothers Anthony and Joe already did a fantastic job with 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and here, they upped their game.
The Russos have inherited the entire Avengers gang, plus some new additions, yet you don’t feel anyone is left out of the fun.
Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man have the juiciest moments, and boy, are they awesome.
I’m now really looking forward to see what the Russos will do with Avengers: Infinity War – Part I and II.
