SINGAPORE – Sick and tired of writing stories involving cleavages, nude women, and scandals, AsiaOne will from April 1 become an all-female editorial team.

Male scribes who make up the minority will now be relegated to tasks such as editing photos, photocopying and answering phone calls from members of the public.

In a show of female solidarity, the new line-up of staff have been given excessively female-looking jackets and other cute stationery. The team has also decided to wear pink every Wednesday as an ode to the Mean Girls movie.

AsiaOne reporter Letchumi Goh, 28, says “this is a step (in heels) in the right direction”.

“Women have long been sidelined in the media industry and it’s time for us to have more say in the content,” said Ms Goh.

Readers can expect to see more stories on cute cat videos, women’s rights and beauty trends, on top of the daily local news that will focus on female CEOs, social activists and entrepreneurs.

However, senior reporter Wok Too Loong, 44, is against an all-female online news team. According to Mr Wok, the ratio of men to women in a team should not matter. He still believes “this is a man’s world”.

“Women should hurry up and accept it, so that we can continue with our everyday work”, said Mr Wok, who has been transferred to the Department of Office Supplies.

The editors declined to comment and only gave this quote: “We are not trying to threaten the men. We just believe that we can do a better job that doesn’t involve them.”

Who run the world? Girls.
