MALACCA – A tiff over cleanliness issues probably led to the gruesome murder of young chef Chia Chun Kit here on March 8.

Malacca police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said police are looking at all the evidence in order to determine the actual cause of the murder.

“We are still tracking the prime suspect and also working on the theory that the victim could have reprimanded the suspect on a cleanliness issue, which possibly led to an altercation between the two,” he said after launching the community policing security post at SK and SMK Malim here on Wednesday.

It is learnt that the victim had also acted as a supervisor to foreign workers of a restaurant in Bukit Beruang, and stayed with them at a nearby shop house turned workers’ hostel.

DCP Abdul Jalil said the suspect, a Myanmar national in his 20s, is believed to have fled after allegedly committing the crime.

He identified the suspect as Than Toe Twin @ Ta Tee, who was the victim’s coworker.

“The suspect could have fled Malacca and is probably on the run now,” he said.

He said police had also found the murder weapon which was covered with victim’s blood.

Chia, 21, was found in a pool of blood at a shop house in Taman Kerjasama, Bukit Beruang here at 6.15am on March 8 by an individual believed to be his employer.

He was found with almost 20 stab wounds on various parts of his body.

On March 9, police remanded two other foreign workers of the restaurant for a week to assist in investigations into the murder.
