Jakarta – AirAsia has banned Samsung Galaxy Note 7 on board on all its flights, including in Indonesia, starting Monday due to safety concerns.

Passengers are not permitted to bring the device on board, through carry-on baggage, check-in luggage or cargo, as stated in a press release on Monday. Any passenger found to carry the device will be denied boarding.

This ban applies to all flights operated by the AirAsia Group, including AirAsia Indonesia for short-haul flights and the long-haul Indonesia AirAsia X flights.

At least eight international airlines have placed similar ban, including Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, Malaysia Airlines, All Nippon Airways and Air New Zealand.

Samsung Electronics have discontinued the smartphone’s production permanently since last week following reports that the replacements, which were equipped with a safer battery, were also catching fire.
