Following the closure of I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar, Bali, authorities have so far redirected seven flights to other cities.

According to the Transportation Ministry, Garuda Indonesia’s Denpasar-bound flights GA 5150 from Zhengzou and GA 897 from Guangzhou were redirected to Surabaya and Garuda Indonesia flight GA 859 from Shanghai to Denpasar was redirected to Jakarta, as was China Eastern flight MU 5029 from Shanghai.

Meanwhile, China Eastern flight MU 781 from Beijing was redirected to Singapore, Citilink’s CTV 856 from Jakarta to Denpasar was redirected to Surabaya and Lion Air’s JT927 from Makassar was also redirected to Surabaya.

Operations at I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport are suspended since 7:15 a.m. on Monday as volcanic ash has been detected in the airspace above the airport.

State-run air navigation company Airnav Indonesia explained that the plotting area for the flight guidance at the airport in Denpasar was affected by volcanic ash.

“Based on the latest report, I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport has been affected by the volcanic ash. Therefore, the Transportation Ministry’s air transportation directorate general has decided to close the airport for safety reasons,” air transportation directorate general secretary Praminto Hadi Sukarno said in a statement.
