Back home in Singapore, 2016 is also the first year of many. In August this year, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong paid a six-day official visit to the United States, and since 1985 has been the first visit by the Prime Minister of Singapore. During the visit, PM Lee and his wife received the state banquet, the Obama administration on the other 11 occasions for eight years.

Another proud moment is Singaporean singer Nathan Hartono who has won the hearts of many Chinese singers! China TV Singing Contest. The 25-year-old has not only won the praise of Judge Jay, but also eventually Jay Chou in the final round of the game on behalf of his team. Although he won the second place, Hartono came home to find his popularity soaring as he left.

The pride we have chosen for 2016 comes from sports. While Singaporeans do not know of winning sports championships abroad, some of the best athletes in the country are proud to be back from the Olympics as the victorious victor.

First, there is a 21-year-old swimmer Joseph School, who won the first Olympic gold medal in Singapore in record time by completing the 100-meter butterfly event. A few weeks later, the participants of the Paralympic Games, Ye Peixiu and Trisago, also won two gold medals and one bronze medal at the Rio Paralympic Games. Thanks to their hard work, Singaporeans can sing Majulah Singapura proudly at the awards ceremony.

What a year it has been for Singapore!
