2 young girls drown in temple pond

Two young girls drowned in a temple pond in Buri Ram’s Nong Hong district on Monday afternoon, police said.

The parents of the girls, who were cousins, became alarmed when the girls had not returned home on Monday evening.

They remembered thegirls liked to play near the pond and found their bicycles and sandals near it.

Rescuers spent about two hours searching the pond and found the bodies at the bottom of the pond.

The girls were identified as Apinya Thongngern, 6, and Pitthaya Wichaisi, 7.
