12 new cases of Zika in Singapore; total now past 300 mark

SINGAPORE – The Ministry of Health (MOH) has confirmed 12 new cases of locally transmitted Zika virus infection in Singapore, bringing the total number to 304.

Of these, 10 cases are linked to the Aljunied Crescent/ Sims Drive/ Kallang Way/ Paya Lebar Way cluster. One case is linked to the Elite Terrace cluster, and the other new case has no known links to any existing cluster.

In a joint statement on Sept 9, MOH and the National Environment Agency (NEA) said that as of Sept 8, a total of 183 breeding habitats had been found and destroyed in the cluster areas, of which 114 are from homes, and 69 from common areas/other premises.

The statement added that vector control operations are continuing in areas where cases have been found.
