SINGAPORE: Four million international visitors came to Singapore in the second quarter of 2016 – up 11 per cent compared to the same time period last year, according to the latest Tourism Sector Performance report by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
Tourists also shelled out more during this period, according to the report, released on Tuesday (Nov 8). Tourism receipts totaled S$6.1 billion in the second quarter of this year – an increase of 20 per cent year-on-year.
Gazetted hotel room revenue also saw growth, increasing by 2.1 per cent year-on-year to reach S$0.8 billion.
Excluding expenditure on sightseeing, entertainment and gaming, China, Indonesia and India were the top three markets that contributed to tourism receipts, STB said. Chinese visitors spent S$882 million, Indonesian tourists shelled out S$645 million, while Indian tourists spent S$450 million in Q2 2016 – excluding sightseeing, entertaining and gaming – according to the report.
Among the top 10 tourism receipt markets, China, India and Indonesia also registered the highest absolute year-on-year growth in tourism receipts, excluding sightseeing, entertainment and gambling, STB added.
