SINGAPORE: A taxi burst into flames near the junction of Toh Tuck Road and Highgate Walk on Thursday night (Dec 15), but its driver and other road users escaped without injuries.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it was alerted to the incident at around 10.55pm, and sent a fire engine and a red rhino to the scene.

Firefighters extinguished the fire using compressed air foam and one water jet, and no one was injured, it added. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

A video taken by Channel NewsAsia reader Anna Ross-Murphy showed at least six firefighters and a police vehicle at the scene, and as they battled the fire, a huge column of smoke rose into the sky.

Footage of the taxi in the aftermath, as it was being hosed down, showed that the vehicle was gutted by the blaze.
