A taxi crashed into a Thai vegetarian restaurant at Toa Payoh Lorong 1 on Wednesday evening (Nov 16).

Mr Danson Chai, a waiter at Thai Lily Restaurant in Block 107, was attending to a customer at around 5.15pm when the accident happened.

The 23-year-old told The New Paper in Mandarin: “I was giving a customer his change when the taxi came crashing in. The speed was very fast.”

After settling with the customer, Mr Chai attended to the confused driver.

“He looked very blur and was unable to open the car door. The left side of his head was bleeding,” said Mr Chai.

“When he came out, he acted as if he didn’t know where he was or what was going on.”

Mr Chai also said he did not smell any alcohol on the driver.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) were alerted to the accident at around 5.20pm and dispatched one ambulance to the scene.

The police said the taxi driver, 61, was conscious and taken to Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

“I was shocked, but I’m glad he wasn’t seriously injured,” said Mr Chai (above).

Callie Woo, 12, who lives in Block 107, said she was on the phone when she heard the crash.

“My grandma told me to come down to see what happened. There was a crowd of about 10 people around the taxi. The driver had blood on his body,” she said.

Police are investigating.
