SINGAPORE: A taxi caught fire on Commonwealth Avenue, near Buona Vista MRT station, on Sunday (Apr 30), resulting in what witnesses described as a “very loud explosion”.
The Land Transport Authority first tweeted about an accident at 2.46pm and said that part of Commonwealth Avenue, after Tanglin Halt Road, was closed.
A video circulating widely on Whatsapp and social media showed firefighters already battling the blaze before the explosion took place.
Channel NewsAsia reader Jerome Teo, who was at Star Vista at the time, said he heard a “very loud explosion” and that black smoke could be seen from there.
Members of the public posted photos and videos of the charred taxi, which appears to belong to Trans-Cab. Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) firefighters, police vehicles and an ambulance were also seen at the scene.
Channel NewsAsia has reached out to SCDF and the police for more details.
