SINGAPORE – A man has been arrested for the murder of a woman who had been missing for over a week, the police said in a statement today (July 21).

The remains of 31-year-old Cui Yajie were discovered in Lim Chu Kang yesterday (July 20).

She was last seen at Fusionopolis Walk at about 9.15pm on July 11.

A missing person report was filed the next day after Ms Cui failed to show up for work.

Noting that there were “suspicious circumstances” relating to the case, police officers from Clementi Division worked with the Criminal Investigation Department and Police Intelligence Department to conduct investigative probes and enquiries.

This led to the arrest of a 48-year-old suspect yesterday. He then took police officers to a deserted road along Lim Chu Kang Lane 8, where the Ms Cui’s remains were found.

The suspect will be charged in court today (July 21). If convicted, he faces the death penalty.
