On Friday, 3 November, Pongsiri Mitsatit lived up to his moniker of “The Smiling Assassin,” as he stopped a promising Filipino talent all while keeping his trademark grin.
The 21-year-old Thai defeated Jeremy “The Jaguar” Miado by TKO in the second round of their strawweight encounter at ONE: HERO’S DREAM, which broadcast live from the Thuwunna Indoor Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar.
Early in the opening round, the 24-year-old Miado looked to force his Thai counterpart to the outside and shoot for takedowns. An attempt at a heel hook failed, however, and let Mitsatit back to his feet.
Mitsatit soon took control at the center of the cage and made “The Jaguar” backpedal, delivering a series of hard shots to his opponent’s face, body and legs.
Eventually, that led to another Miado takedown. “The Smiling Assassin” tried to turn it into a triangle choke submission, but the Filipino quickly escaped. Although Miado hit a third takedown, referee Yuji Shimada called for more action, and the athlete voluntarily stood up and attempted to obey his orders.
In the second round, Mitsatit pressed the action even more. Following a yellow card for refusing to engage in action, Miado tried to wade his way through the furious flurries of his foe and score another takedown.
Mitsatit would not play along. He easily countered, and wound up sitting on top of his exhausted rival before transitioning to the full mount and landing an elbow that prompted “The Jaguar” to surrender.
The official end came by verbal submission at 4:23 of round two for the Mitsatit, who remains undefeated and improves to a perfect 9-0 in his career.
