KUALA LUMPUR – Jackie Chan considers every movie he makes as a gift to his fans.
“It’s not possible for me to meet all of my fans in the world and thank them for supporting me, so all I can do is thank them by making better movies every year,” he said. “That’s my gift to my fans.”
The actor is in town to promote his latest movie Kung Fu Yoga.
“I’ve been working in films for 50 to 60 years now.
“And with every film I try to do the same thing – make a better movie each time,” he said.
Chan, 62, is accompanied by Kung Fu Yoga director Stanley Tong, as well as his co-stars – Bollywood actresses Disha Patani and Amyra Dastur, and Muqi Miya from China.
Distributed locally by GSC Movies, Kung Fu Yoga is a China-India collaboration that also stars Bollywood actor Sonu Sood, and Chinese actors Aarif Rahman and Zhang Yixing.
In the movie, Chan reprises the role of archaeologist Jack Chan, whom he first played in The Myth in 2005, also directed by Tong.
Jack is approached by a beautiful scientist from India (played by Disha) to go on a search for a lost treasure in Tibet.
Disha said initially, she could not believe that she would be shooting a movie with Chan.
“I grew up watching his movies. It’s amazing to be working with him.
“When I first met him, I was so star-struck, I just kept staring at him!” said the former beauty queen.
While filming in Iceland, Chan had to go to London for an emergency operation after he complained of an excruciating pain.
A medical check showed that he was suffering from rotten muscles and his intestines were out of alignment.
It was also revealed that after the operation, Chan immediately went back to Iceland to finish filming a scene in which he had to jump into a freezing lake.
Kung Fu Yoga opens in cinemas nationwide on Jan 27.
