Singapore: On Monday (November 15), the Immigration and Checkpoints Agency (ICA) stated that a total of 1,048 boxes of unpaid cigarettes were found in a truck trying to smuggle contraband into Singapore through the Tuas checkpoint.
The authorities said in a Facebook post that this Malaysian-registered truck was carrying a variety of goods, including furniture panels, when ICA officials instructed it to conduct further inspections on November 12.
“When they found unpaid cigarettes on the furniture board, their suspicions were confirmed,” ICA said.
It added that the case has been submitted to Singapore Customs for further investigation.
“Terrorists may also use similar concealment methods to smuggle safe items into Singapore,” ICA said.
“ICA will continue to conduct security checks to detect and stop smuggling attempts to ensure the safety of Singapore.”
