A man was crushed to death by an oncoming high-speed train in China on Sunday afternoon (Mar 27).
The Daily Mail reported that the unidentified man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was spotted trying to make it from one platform to another at Nanjing South Railway Station.
Eyewitnesses told reporters that he could have been on the wrong platform and was trying to get to another platform to catch the right train. Unfortunately, his decision to dash across the railway tracks proved fatal.
A graphic video uploaded on Chinese news site People’s Daily Online showed the man being trapped at the edge of the platform. His midriff was caught between the train and the platform when he could not raise himself to safety in time.
Firefighters who arrived were overheard shouting continually at the victim: “Keep breathing, don’t sleep!”
Despite their efforts to free the man, he was later pronounced dead by a doctor at the scene, according to online news site Shanghaiist.
The victim’s body was eventually removed by firefighters who drilled through the concrete platform around him and created enough space to pull him out.
Nanjing South Railway Station released a statement confirming the incident, adding that authorities were conducting investigations.
