SINGAPORE: Senior Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs Maliki Osman arrived at the first stop of his five-day working visit to the Middle East on Sunday (Nov 6).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said Dr Maliki arrived in Israel on Sunday and was hosted to lunch by Deputy Minister in the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office Michael Oren.
During the lunch, Dr Maliki affirmed the “excellent bilateral relations” between Singapore and Israel and had a “wide-ranging discussion” with Dr Oren on global developments, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said.
He also reiterated Singapore’s “consistent position and longstanding support for the two-state solution with Israel and Palestine living side-by-side in peace and security”, and “expressed the hope that both sides would resume negotiations and make progress towards a just and durable solution”, according to MFA.
Dr Maliki will meet Acting Director-General of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yuval Rotem on Monday before proceeding to the Palestinian Territories and Jordan for the rest of his trip, which ends on Thursday, MFA said.
