Two Chon Buri residents were arrested early Tuesday morning for allegedly stealing a Chinese tourist’s valuables worth Bt1.2 million (S$49,585).

Tourist police inspector Pol Major Piyapong Ensan said jet-ski driver Rattanapol Sae-oui, 21, and Surasak Intarachote, 50, were charged with stealing an iPhone X worth Bt50,000, a Bt600,000 jade necklace and pendant and a Bt600,000 diamond ring.

The items were inside a waterproof bag that tourist Zhu Jiang, 28, had set aside while playing in the sea off Koh Lan Beach on Monday. A CCTV camera recorded one of the suspects picking up the bag and walking away.

Rattanapol was arrested at Ta Waen Beach at 1am and allegedly confessed to the theft. He said he’d kept the necklace and pendant but discarded the phone and gave the diamond ring to Surasak, who sold it. Rattanapol is charged with theft and Surasak with possession of a stolen item.
