A China tourism company has sued Paramount Pictures, the producer of the fourth Transformers film, and its Chinese partner for failing to include the logo of its resort in the film.

Wulong Karst Tourism is asking for compensation of 180 million yuan (S$37.4 million), the South China Morning Post (SCMP) reported.

The case finally went to court on Tuesday (April 26) nearly two years after it was filed.

Part of the 2014 movie, Transformers: Age Of Extinction, was filmed in China’s Wulong Karst National Park. Wulong Karst Tourism, the company managing the park, said that the film’s producers were obligated to include a logo with the Chinese characters “China Wulong” in the finished film, which they did not do.

SCMP said that the defendants admitted in court that they failed to use the logo, but said that they tried to make up for the mistake by having the film’s director, Michael Bay, shoot an advertisement for the resort and leaving behind film props as tourist attractions.

According to local media, the court will fix another date to announce its decision.

Though critically lambasted, Transformers: Age Of Extinction grossed US$1.104 billion (S$1.49 billion) at the box office.
