SINGAPORE – China Railway Tunnel Group has won a S$310.8 million contract to build the Prince Edward Station and two tunnels on the Circle Line, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced on Monday (Oct 9).

Construction for the three-storey underground station – sited at Palmer Road – and two tunnels linking the compound to Cantonment Station is likely to begin by year-end, and be completed by 2025.
Prince Edward Station is one of three stations on the Circle Line 6 (CCL 6), a 4km stretch that will connect Harbourfront Station to Marina Bay Station. The line will also consist of the Keppel and Cantonment stations – all expected to be completed around 2025.
Once ready, the CCL6 will bring the total number of stations on the Circle Line to 33, and link commuters between the Central Business District and western areas such as Pasir Panjang and Kent Ridge.
“Commuters travelling from areas like Paya Lebar and Mountbatten will also enjoy faster access to the retail and office centres in the HarbourFront area,” the LTA said in a press release.
The China Railway Tunnel group is one of the largest underground works companies in China, and has undertaken urban rail, highways and public works projects across the country.
More recently, it completed an underpass for Havelock Station on the Thomson-East Coast Line using the first Rectangular Tunnel Boring Machine.
An upcoming underpass at the Stevens Station on the same line is being constructed using the same method.
