SINGAPORE – Are you a California Fitness gym member who frequents the branch at Raffles Place?
The local gym operator put out a notice on Facebook this morning (July 16) at about 7.30am, announcing that “Raffles Club is closed until further notice”.
California Fitness Singapore said members could visit its Novena and Bugis branches instead.
A WhatsApp message had apparently been sent out to members at around midnight on Saturday to inform them about the closure, but the message allegedly did not reach all gym members, reported Channel NewsAsia.
Earlier this week, it was reported that California Fitness Hong Kong abruptly shut all 12 of its gyms, leaving 64,000 members and 7,000 staff in the lurch.
JV Fitness, the operator of the fitness chain in Hong Kong, had reportedly chalked up millions of dollars in debt.
A California Fitness spokesman told The Straits Times that “California Fitness Hong Kong and California Fitness Singapore operate separately and independently”, and declined further comment.
California Fitness has two remaining outlets in Singapore. The outlet at Ngee Ann City closed in February this year.
