Penang teen Lee Pei Ling (pic) has made it to the top six in the Sing! China competition, Oriental Daily reported.

During the reality TV show’s recording on Monday night, the 15-year-old secured her place with a solid performance of pop ballad Wo Zhi Dao Ni Hen Nan Guo (I Know You Are Very Upset) by Jolin Tsai.

Pei Ling and Adinda Tasya Mansor, 11, are the latest Malaysian girls making waves in Chinese singing contests, following the success of Shila Amzah.

On July 15, Pei Ling’s debut performance in the series impressed the panel of “mentors”, especially Na Ying, one of China’s top-selling artistes. Also on the panel are Taiwan’s Jay Chou and Harlem Yu and China’s Wang Feng.

After her performance, Pei Ling was chosen by Na Ying to be on her team, which means she will be coached by the songstress throughout the competition.

Sing! China was formerly known as 2016 The Voice of China, the unofficial Chinese version of the US hit The Voice. The show debuted in 2013 but after legal disputes, its producers changed its name to Sing! China and re-introduced it on July 15.
