Should you be so lucky to snag the coveted S$12 million jackpot this February, here are 10 things you can consider doing:
1. Log on to Private Islands Online to find your perfect private island. There are plenty for sale in the Bahamas, with prices ranging from S$2.1 million for Buttonwood Cay to S$12 million for Roberts Cay. But if you are looking for something closer to home, then try Thailand or the Philippines. For S$1.5 million you can buy Cambaya Island in the Philippines or a whole island off the coast of Phuket for S$11.3 million.
2. If you are a homebody who prefers to stay in Singapore, you may want to look into an oceanfront penthouse duplex with private pool in Sentosa. The asking price for a 5,984 square feet unit at Oceanfront@Sentosa Cove is S$12 million.
3. If you decide to save the money, (which seems incredibly dull) then fixed deposits are your best bet. Interest rates for those are higher, compared to savings accounts. The Bank of China’s Singapore dollar time deposit, for example, has an annual interest rate of 0.375 per cent.
4. If fast cars are your thing, how about a Koenigsegg Agera supercar? One was reportedly sold to a Singaporean couple at S$5.3 million in 2013. Otherwise, a humble McLaren 675LT (S$1.47 million without COE) will do too.
5. Why travel on commercial planes when you can travel in style – in your own. You can own a private aircraft from the starting price of about S$6 million. Add a little bit more and you can hire a pilot, buy jet fuel, and pay airport taxes.
6. Take your BFFs on a trip to the final frontier. Virgin Galactic offers commercial space travel for US$250,000 (S$357,000) per seat and it has the capacity for six passengers. Commercial flights are targeted to begin in 2018.
7. What about spending your life on a cruise ship? One Australian woman is doing just that, and she said it costs her around A$633 (S$682) a day. Based on those numbers, your $12 million could buy almost 50 years on the ship.
8. If you’re a die-hard fashionista, why not buy the whole range of Hermes Birkin bags, with change left over to build a room to display them in. The price of Birkin bags range from US$7,650 (S$10,861) to US$150,000.
9. If you have a big heart, you could set up your own foundation to help those in need, rescued animals, or children living in poverty.
10. Retire as early as the age of 35, which probably means that you shouldn’t try to do items 1-9 all at once.
