Jokowi bestows highest medal to Swedish king

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has honoured King Carl XVI Gustav of Sweden with the Bintang Adipurna medal, the country’s highest award to a foreign statesman, after witnessing the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the two countries at the Bogor Palace in West Java on Monday.

The award was honoured based on the king’s contributions to various subjects that had strengthened ties between the two countries and to accolade the same honour, Jokowi received the Royal Order of Seraphim from the Swedish leader, according to a press statement issued by the State Palace.

After visiting the palace, the Swedish monarchs planted ironwood trees at the Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR).

CIFOR researcher Herry Purnomo said he expected the bilateral co-operation to result in transfer knowledge, particularly in regard to the implementation of information and technology.

The king and Queen Silvia will be in Indonesia from Monday to Wednesday, during which they will attend various events. Swedish Infrastructure Minister Anna Johansson and a total of 31 representatives from various Swedish companies are also visiting.
